The Elizabeth Ministry
at the Archdiocese of Santa Fe
"Elizabeth Ministry is designed to help women share, pray, and realize the sacredness of their lives."
Areas of Support
Mary set out at that time and went as quickly as she could to a town in the hill country of Judah. She went to Zechariah’s house and greeted Elizabeth. Now as soon as Elizabeth heard Mary’s greeting, the child leapt in her womb and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit. She gave a loud cry and said, “of all the women you are the most blessed, and blessed is the fruit of your womb. Why should I be honored with a visit from the mother of my Lord? For the moment your greeting reached my ears, the child in my womb leapt for joy. Yes, blessed is she who believed that the promise made her by the Lord would be fulfilled”
Purpose of the Elizabeth Ministry at the Archdiocese of Santa Fe
In the past, the support women found during the childbearing years came from the family, neighborhood and church. Women gathered around the well, so to speak. Today, these structures have undergone change. Families, no longer live in the same town, and neighborhoods have become fragmented. In a response to the growing need for this type of support structure, the Elizabeth Ministries was created to bring this support structure back.
As volunteers, women in the church community offer support, mentoring, and friendship, through the joys and sorrows of the childrearing years. Although not counselors, the Elizabeth Ministers share their experiences and stories that will encourage other women and their families.
The Archdiocese of Santa Fe and the 8 deaneries within have established a growing Elizabeth Ministry that recognizes the uniqueness of each individual parish. The Ministry is encouraged to structure itself to meet the needs of each community, reflecting the deaneries themselves as they correspond to their own geography and demography.
Prayer of the Elizabeth Ministry
We thank You, O God Within and Beyond us,
for linking our lives in so many ways,
making a chain of hope and compassion
long enough and strong enough to circle the globe.
When we walk hand in hand, when we work side by side,
the impossible becomes the next challenge before us,
and we know we can do what we dared not attempt.
May mountains of misery melt with Your Word of concern
which we put into action, and may there never again be despair
or denial of Your Saving grace.
(Prayer from Woman Word, Mariam Therese Winter)
