Family Concert Series Kickoff
ALBUQUERQUE- Friday, July 16, 2004- IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Calling All Families!
The Archdiocese of Santa Fe Office of Youth and Young Adult Ministries invites
all families to their Family Concert Series Kickoff, Saturday, July 24, 2004 at 6:30
PM on the St. Pius X High School football field located at 4000 St. Joseph Place NW. Saturday’s
Family Concert Series kickoff will feature the nationally known Catholic artists, Tony
Melendez and Steve Angrisano.
Tony Melendez, an awe-inspiring, unforgettable entertainer, has
overcome his physical limitations and plays his instruments with his feet. In 1987, Pope John
Paul II was so moved by Tony’s performance at the World Youth Day in Denver that the Holy
Father walked off his platform to embrace Tony with a pontific kiss. This show of affection
seems to represent the way the world has embraced Tony’s courage and musical talent. Since
then, Tony has had the opportunity to give four additional performances for the Pope John Paul
II-- twice in the Vatican and another in the Pope's homeland of Poland, as well as in Denver,
Colorado for World Youth Day 1993. Tony has traveled across the United States and twenty-seven
foreign countries, making countless television appearances, including The Today Show, Good Morning
America, CBS This Morning, and prime-time network. He also performed at The World Series, where
he sang the National Anthem for the fifth game of the 1989 series. His best-selling autobiography,
A Gift of Hope, was published in 1989 by Harper & Row. He has been
the recipient of numerous awards and honors, including special commendations from President Reagan
and the first annual Inspirational Hero Award from the NFL Alumni Association at Super Bowl XXIII.
Steve Angrisano is recognized as one of the most dynamic and
effective communicators with Catholic youth in the country. Steve, a well-known Christian artist,
has been declared by YOU! Magazine "the
king of Catholic youth allies." As a singer, songwriter, storyteller, and inspirational
speaker, Steve has shared his message of hope with hundreds of thousands of young people over
the last 10 years. His music is dynamic and exciting; his message proclaims that through Christ
we have the power to carry out God’s work. He has been featured at major youth events
nationally and internationally, including two World Youth Days, four National Catholic Youth
Conferences and countless parish, school, camp and diocesan events. Steve has also worked extensively
as a ropes course instructor and youth ministry trainer and has given workshops at both National
Federation of Catholic Youth Ministers and National Catholic Youth Conference events.
The Family Concert Series is a yearlong-series featuring outstanding local and
national Catholic entertainers. The series is an answer to the call to bring fun-filled family
