Annual Catholic Appeal

January, 2015

My Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

One newly ordained priest recently said, “I love being a Priest and being able to offer God’s mercy and love to his people!  I am grateful for the time I spent studying at the seminary to prepare for priestly ministry. I couldn’t wait to return to New Mexico where I can now minister to our own people.”  It has been your donations to the Annual Catholic Appeal - which pay for tuition, room and board –that enable our seminarians to complete their formation.

Through your donations to the ACA, we were able to help a parish receive a grant to build bathroom facilities on their own parish grounds where there had been no facilities before.  Parishioners no longer have to walk across a busy highway to use a gas station to use the rest rooms for Sunday Mass, funerals, religious education classes and meetings.

Your gifts to the Annual Catholic Appeal make the production and broadcast of the weekly Sunday TV Mass in English and Spanish on Channels 2 and 41 possible. For the sick and homebound, this Mass provides a strong connection to the local church and enfolds them in prayer into the Body of Christ.

Every Lent the Archdiocese of Santa Fe, in cooperation with Catholic Relief Services, sponsors “CRS Rice Bowl”.  The Lenten almsgiving donations are given to food-based charities in the US with 25% of those sacrificial offerings staying right here in our Archdiocese to feed the hungry, poor, and homeless.  It is your contributions to ACA that enable us to organize such a large effort to address hunger here in our own backyard.

This is a sampling of the work that is done in the name of Christ and his Church when you give your hard-earned dollars to the Annual Catholic Appeal.  Our 2015 ACA theme is “Love Consists More in Actions than in Words”. When you take the ACTION of pledging and donating to ACA, we can take the ACTIONS that make concrete Jesus’ WORDS of love, mercy, and compassion.  During his life, Jesus not only preached in WORDS, but by his ACTIONS.  As his followers, we are compelled by the Spirit to do the same.

Your 2015 gift to the Annual Catholic Appeal gives you a voice and the ability to influence the quality and outreach of the ministry of Jesus Christ in our Archdiocese.  Your ACA donation enables you to “pay it forward” for all that you have received from God.  Your contribution gives you an opportunity to be a role model for your children and grandchildren, telling them why it is so important to our Catholic faith to spread the teachings of Jesus in WORD and ACTION.  In this time of world tension, faith is the gift we must share by acting as Jesus did in every aspect of our lives!

Please give more generously than ever to ACA 2015! Know that I pray for you and for our world daily.

In the Risen Lord,

Most Rev. Michael J. Sheehan
Archbishop of Santa Fe

Mission Statement of
the Archdiocesan Pastoral Plan

On Pentecost, 2006 the Archdiocesan Pastoral Plan was promulgated by Archbishop Michael J. Sheehan. It’s mission statement reads: Commissioned by Christ and empowered by the Holy Spirit the Roman Catholic Church of the Archdiocese of Santa Fe is the People of God of many cultures and traditions. In union with the successor of Peter, we are a community of disciples that continues the evangelization begun by Franciscan missionaries 400 years ago through:

  • proclaiming the Gospel
  • celebrating the sacraments
  • teaching the faith
  • forming the faithful for works of service
  • evangelizing the inactive and the unchurched
  • .......all of which bear fruit in the Kingdom of God.

The Archdiocesan Pastoral Plan needs the Annual Catholic Appeal to make its work a reality.

Mission Statement of the Annual Catholic Appeal Foundation

The Archdiocese of Santa Fe is committed to share responsibility for living the Gospel and for the intellectual and spiritual development of all Catholics by giving the People of God the opportunity to be personally involved in the ministry of the Church of Santa Fe.
